Q & A

Turn Around Times

How Long does printing take?

Printing time varies from product to product. Before adding a product to your cart, the Turnaround will be displayed. These turnarounds are average timelines and not guarantees. Also, the turnaround does not start until the proofs for your job are approved. We generally send proofs back within 1 business day. The reason the turnaround starts after the proof is approved and not from the time the order is placed is that sometimes proofs “sit” with a client for some time. Once proofs are approved, the ball is in our court and we begin the printing.

How long does the shipping take?

Shipping usually takes 1-2 business days. We have 7 printing locations across the U.S. so your job will usually be produced in the location closest to you for fastest shipping times.

Printing Files and Graphic Design

Do you have blank printing templates?

We have blank printing templates for everything we offer here. You can download whichever file format you need to use in your program of choice. Using our templates will ensure you’re designing in the proper size and quality (resolution). If words like “bleed” and “text safety” are not words you’re familiar with, don’t worry! Just do your best and we’ll tweak your artwork as needed. Remember, we send digital proofs for all jobs that you need to approve printing, so we won’t print something you don’t want.

What file formats do you accept?

We can take pretty much any file format, provided it’s good quality. Don’t worry, we’ll let you know if there are issues with your files before printing. PDF, TIFF, or JPG are usually best though. Please be sure to save everything at the highest quality or at a resolution of 300. Here is a partial list of the formats we can work with:

  • PDF
  • TIFF
  • JPG
  • PNG
  • Microsoft Publisher (please send individual pictures used in Publisher as well)
  • Microsoft Word (please send individual pictures used in Word as well)
  • Photoshop (PSD)
  • Illustrator (AI)
  • EPS

What are the file specs?

We can work with pretty much anything, so if this is all over your head, don’t worry! Just submit what you have and we will do what we can to make it work. The ideal specs are as follows: 300 dpi resolution, with a 1/8″ all around bleed and a 1/8″ text safety. Our blank templates are here and have these set up in them already.

Bleed Definition: Bleed is the 1/8″ extra added to every side of a print file. For example, a 5×7 postcard should be submitted at the size 5.25 x 7.25. The reason for this is that no cutting process is 100% accurate. The extra 1/8″ bleed on each side will allow a slight margin of error so that if the cutting is slightly off, you won’t be left with a white line on one edge. In other words, you should extend all graphics (though nothing important) into the bleed area.

Text Safety Definition: Text safety is in place for the same reason as bleed. Without it, an imperfect cut could mean words are cut off or, though less serious but still important, the words may be aligned too close to the edge.

How Does the Graphic Design Service Work?

Essentially, when you place your order, instead of uploading your files to print, you’ll be uploading instructions and supporting files such as your logo, product shots, etc.

Typically this might look like a Microsoft Word document with the text you want on the front and the back as well maybe some pictures. We can supply generic (stock) photos, but things like your logo or specific pictures should be supplied by you.

The more info we have the better: colors you like, styles, etc. are all good. Some clients even upload a scan of a hand drawn mock-up which is actually quite helpful!

After we get all of this info we’ll create your first draft and send you a digital proof. From here we then go back and forth on the design until you’re happy with it and ready to print. A type job might have 3 sets of revisions.

Our design staff get compliments all the time on their design work and how easy they are to work with. Check out our Testimonials for yourself.

Printing Quality Assurance Questions

Do You Guarantee Your Services and Products?

Absolutely! We 100% guarantee your satisfaction and quality of our print products, and also guarantee your satisfaction in our graphic design service.

Read the full guarantee here.

Will I get proofs prior to printing?

Yes we send proofs for every print job, even if it’s not a design job. Additionally, we send proofs for any and every change requested so you are sure of what you are getting. Nothing gets printed until you’ve approved your proofs.

How can your prices be so low?

We maintain low prices with exceptional quality for two reason. The first is that we operate mostly online – everyone who can work from home (such as our designers) do so. This keeps our overhead lower by not having a large building. So when you order from us, you’re paying just for print – not our building expenses!

The second reason is that we print such a large volume that we get rock bottom prices from our suppliers and manufacturers. By keeping our costs low, we’re able to keep your costs low as well.

Is your product good quality?

Absolutely! Our print quality is some of the highest in the industry. We use bright, thick paper and card stock and offer multiple finishes to make your print extremely professional. You can check out the products video on each page to see some things we’ve printed.

Are there any hidden fees?

The only fees you’ll pay are the price you see on the website for printing, tax, shipping (free on most orders) and, if chosen, the design service.

If I have a problem, what do I do?

99% of our jobs go smoothly. If you’re unlucky enough to be one of the 1% that does have a problem, don’t worry, we are here for you! We will fix all issues as quickly, thoroughly and fairly as possible. We truly are a hands-on business and not a ‘faceless corporation’.

What is color variance?

Colors can vary from printer to printer. We do our best to ensure your print job comes out as it appears on your screen. That being said, every monitor is different and some monitors can also be calibrated poorly.

The most common issue is with dark graphics. A dark grey on black design might look nice on your monitor but in actuality, it will likely come out looking all black. It may be a good idea to brighten your artwork 10% and 20% if you have a lot of dark colors.

Miscellaneous Printing Questions

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Paypal – all of which ca be processed through the online checkout. Call to arrange payment by check or Email Money Transfer.

Is your product environmentally friendly?

All of our products are Green! Our paper and card stock is created with approximately 30% recycled content (this is as much as you can get without the quality degrading). We also use soya-based instead instead of petroleum based inks.

Can I use two sets of graphics for my print job?

Because of the way our print process works, you cannot split an order of say 1000 postcards into say 500 of one design and 500 of another, even if they are only slightly different. The prices are calculated based on the artwork being exactly the same for each piece.
